The Trousers Are Tops!

Rogue Territory makes some really well designed clothes. The materials are some of the best available and they stand by the hand crafted nature they promote. Their Work Trouser is perfect. The fit looks great and comfortable and the build is full of intricate design details one would expect from such a limited edition run of pant. They are currently being featured on Denim Debate, a new site dedicated to displaying the evolution of some of the best denim brands from around the world. I want these... hopefully I can find my size and don't break the bank too much.

I love the pockets on these trousers. The slant pockets in the front with flap covers and the shape of the rear pocket really make these trousers stand out from other jeans out there.

NEW INK!

So I got my first real tattoo the other week and I cannot be more happy about the outcome. I was looking for some sort of pin-up but not too sleazy and something a little out of the ordinary. I came across a Word War 1 recruitment painted by Howard Chandler Christy (pictured at the bottom). It is a classy pic and I might get another "Christy Girl" on my other forearm.

Gitman Vintage Collaborations On My Mind

Gitman Vintage began as a project to take old shirt design and reinvent them. Gitman itself has been around for some time but the offerings by the Vintage brand are phenomenal. These shirts are made in Pennsylvania and fit like no other shirt I have ever worn. I wear my blue oxford a little baggier and my white oxford a little closer to the body.

As of this week a couple new collaborations involving Gitman Vintage has been released and immediately caught my eye. The Tattersall checks are unique and seldom seen in modern fashion lines. I, for one, am impressed. I cannot decide between the Inventory or the Epaulet collaboration. I am leaning towards the Epaulet as the creme base colour adds a little more depth. Not to mention stain hiding ability. Have a look.

Mickey Drexler is the man! He made JCrew what it is today. Listen in at 24:00 minutes. He is genius.

I am a firm believer in buying products, not just for their aesthetics, but for their function and build. Gitman Vintage is a relatively new line that was created out of the Gitman shirt manking business that had been making some of the best shirts around for the last 30 years or so. The thinking was to bring back some of the fits and materials used in the 80's back into production. Their oxfords are the best I have ever worn and just feel as thought they will last forever. The below shirt, one of their cotton poplin checks, caught my eye a few weeks ago online. I couldn't remember where I had seen it which was frustrating to say the least. Out and about today to do some much deserved birthday shopping I stopped by Nomad and lo and behold it was there. While not cheap I am very happy with my purchase.

As I said earlier, I was out doing some birthday shopping. My goal... a replacement for the trusty but old Fred Perry vinyl flight bag I had been using for the last couple years as my daily bag. I picked up this nice Filson Medium Field Bag as a more subdued and durable replacement. My style has changed a lot in the last couple years. This bag will fit in nicely.

The importance of finding the perfect local pub in your life is tantamount. I am unfortunate in that there is no decent pub within walking distance from where I live. Hell, there isn't even a Starbucks (for shame!). However, just a short streetcar ride away I have found, thanks to a few friends, what I consider my local... even though it isn't all that local. The House on Parliament is where I spent my birthday weekend. Yes, it is that time of year where I realize I am not getting any younger and so I will drown that realization in booze... lots of it. Well, I do not remember my birthday at all I have taking this opportunity to assume that that means I had a good time.

Some people say "Clothes make the man". I tend to agree but go one step further and say that if "Clothes make the man, accessories make the clothes". There is nothing that irritates me more than plain unadorned outfits. As far as I am concerned the whole American Apparel style can go and soon. Go for character and you will always stand out. Standing out is a good thing.

This is how I wear my Bandanna in my back pocket. I used my red one there and it adds a little colour to you blue jeans. This time I have a purple tied around my neck in the traditional bandanna fashion to keep the cold winds of Canada off my neck. When I jump on my scooter I bring it up over my nose to prevent wind burn.

This will keep me busy for some time...

Well I am sure you can tell from my previous post I am a bit of a shopper. I enjoy new things and I am a bit of a clothes whore but I suppose there are worse things I could be spending my money on... not that I don't spend money on those as well. I picked up this new Eau de Toilette today. I was out on my scooter and it was cold but clear out and dry so I thought I would do a few errands and visit a few of my favorite shops here in Toronto. One of those shops is Jonathan and Olivia. A relative newcomer to Toronto, this shop carries a nice variety of classic and modern streetwear. I just so happened to stop in on a day where the majority of the store was on sale. Not wanting to waste the opportunity I picked up a nice Engineered Garments shirts in an off black colour and my new scent.

The new scent is Hinoki which was released a few years ago by my favorite magazine, Monocle. It is a collaboration between the magazine and the coveted streetwear and scent brand Comme des Garcons. It was expensive (not one of J and O's items on sale) and the bottle is small but I love it and so I don't really care. The scent has a nice and earthy aroma to it with a lot of cedar and mossy touches to it. According to the little card that came in the box the inspiration "...comes from a perfectly still, slightly chilly spring mourning spent soaking in an indoor/outdoor tub at the Tawaraya in Kyoto."

This is my new scent.

Arriving Tuesday

Gitman Bros Vintage make such simple shirts but they are perfect in materials and cut. There are far to many imitations of Oxford shirts (read American Apparel) and far to few quality ones.

1943 Elgin A-11 Hack Watch

This is a 1943 Elgin A-11 Hack watch. It was standard issue for the US military during World War 2. This style was produced by three companies Bulova, Hamilton and Elgin. The Elgin watches seem to be available for sail every now an again. I am currently negotiating for one over Ebay. Wish me luck!

Introductions

My name is Dave and this is my first attempt at a Blog. I am sure many are over the whole blog thing but I love them and so I have decided to give it a try. I have many interests which I am sure you will soon be accustomed to by reading what I write.

This site will serve as an outlet to accumulate all those interests into one singular space. I am not a professional photographer so, when available, I will use others pics in lieu of my own and give cred where it's due. I am not a writer. Don't bother bugging me about my spelling or grammar because I just don't care. I will try and post at least once a day but I have a real job and life that takes precedence.

Stay tuned and I hope you enjoy!
